Palin Redux

I've absolutely no intention of posting it here, but the new Sarah Palin interview is just riotous. Perhaps I find it so incredibly hilarious because of the persistent subtitle: www.howobamagotelected.com, insinuating that some sort of massive fraud was perpetrated. Evidently, the makers of the "documentary" didn't notice that President-elect Obama won in an electoral landslide. Does Sarah Palin really believe that were it not for Katie Couric's supposedly malevolent interviewing and editing she and John McCain would have been victorious? Has she seen none of the critical coverage (there's been alot of it) of Caroline Kennedy's bid for a Senate appointment (I'm still against it), which renders her complaints of a double standard hollow? Does she not understand that attacking Couric for the disastrous interview does nothing to lessen the impact of it, but instead ensures that it gets replayed even more? Does Palin honestly think she's helping set up a run in 2012 by attacking the same media that's going to be covering her then, or does she not care?

I'll grant, her constituency seems to be exclusively those who shriek "Media bias!" at everything, and her screw the media campaign will doubtless further beatify her in their minds, but I don't see how that constituency with in the GOP, large though it is, can possibly be large enough to secure her the nomination she has said she wants in 2012. So I admit, I'm a bit confused as to why Palin would want to do this, aside from the obvious answer of just not being a very shrewed political operator. Making those people who are already crazy about her even more enthralled will do nothing to advance her aspirations. But it will provide fodder for people like me who see her as a buffoon whose very name is quickly becoming a punchline.

And for the last time: Someone is not "assassinated by the media" if they say really stupid things when they are interviewed. No one made Sarah Palin say that she read "all of them" when asked what publications she read, whatever her excuse may be. No one made her say she could see Russia from her house when that is physically and geographically impossible. No one made her make ridiculous statements about "Putin rearing his head" as if she was some sort of first-responder in the event of a Russian invasion. No one made her repeatedly lie about opposing the bridge to nowhere when there was video tape of her doing exactly the opposite. No one made her claim she had always fought against corrupt politicians like Ted Stevens when she was the head of his 527 and there were lots of lovely photos of them together. No one made her state that Obama was "palling around with terrorists" while her husband was a member of a party that openly advocates the secession of Alaska from the United States, otherwise known as sedition. And, for the record, it wasn't the media calling Palin a "diva" and a "whack job." Those were McCain campaign aides calling her that. So when is she going to give an interview taking a big swing at the campaign is what I want to know.

Four more years of this is going to be fun.
